History

4S Ranch is located in an area that was once called Ralphs Ranch, after it was purchased by the Ralphs family, owners of the Ralphs grocery chain, in 1938. The community was developed by Newland Communities in the mid-2000s, at the height of the housing boom. It is part of an area known as NCFUA, or North City Future Urbanizing Area. This area is 12,000 acres, stretching from I5 and Carmel Valley to Rancho Peñasquitos and Rancho Bernardo.

Natural Environment

4S Ranch has a 25-acre park consisting of athletic fields for Little League and soccer, tennis courts, basketball courts, and a roller hockey rink. Approximately 1,600 acres of 4S Ranch have been set aside as a permanently protected wildlife habitat. This leaves the surrounding environment undisturbed and keeps the neighborhood naturally beautiful. It also provides miles of gorgeous hiking and biking trails. In such a natural environment, recreation becomes an important part of the community and lifestyle in 4S Ranch.

Public & Private Institutions Of Learning

Education is provided by public, private and home schools. State governments set overall educational standards, often mandate standardized tests for K–12 public school systems and supervise, usually through a board of regents, state colleges, and universities. Funding comes from the state, local, and federal government. Private schools are generally free to determine their own curriculum and staffing policies, with voluntary accreditation available through independent regional accreditation authorities, although some state regulation can apply.
