Sorrento Valley is a neighborhood located about 15 miles north of downtown San Diego and its main airport, Lindbergh Field. To the west of Sorrento Valley is Del Mar, to the east Mira Mesa and to the south, La Jolla/University City. Sorrento Valley is home to many high tech and IT companies. At its center is the San Diego Tech Center. Notable companies in the neighborhood include Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, Pfizer, and Websense.
Sorrento Valley's family-oriented neighborhoods offer a variety of housing, shopping and recreation. Young families appreciate the good schools, and the small town environment makes it a good place to raise children.
Most of the residential areas are single-family homes, but there is also a good selection of town homes and condominiums. Large homes built in the rolling hills of the area often have city views.
The area is defined by three major freeways giving it the additional name of the Golden Triangle. University Town Center, a major regional mall, was built in the late 70s. It includes an ice rink and movie theaters as well as a collection of retail shopping. The mall encouraged other development. Now sleek office buildings house financial, high tech and biotech firms; excellent restaurants and hotels give the area sophistication.
