The City of Coronado is a small beach community, with an island feel. The City embraces world renowned beaches and exceptional community assets in a village atmosphere that is representative of its history, all within 7.4 square miles, surrounded by the San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Incorporated in 1890, the City serves the community and improves the quality of life for residents and future generations.
One of the jewels in our City is the Coronado Public Library. Remodeled and expanded in 2005, the library is centered around the original library that was built in 1909 by John D. Spreckels, now the Spreckels Reading Room.
Also completed in 2005, the Glorietta Bay Civic Center & Promenade includes a new 42,000 square foot Community Center, promenade park, and a new City Hall. The Community Center contains a 50-meter competitive lap pool, shallow recreation pool, gymnasium with an NCAA regulation basketball court, an amazing indoor climbing wall, fitness center, dance studio, meeting rooms, and loads of classes and recreational programs for children, teens, and adults. Finally, downtown Coronado boasts unique shops and many restaurants serving residents and visitors. Three destination resorts and many small hotels offer a variety of accommodations for visitors.
